Rise of the Tomb Raider, the new Tomb Raider game set to come out some time in 2015, will be an Xbox exclusive. Microsoft executive Phil Harrison and head of product development at Square Enix Darrell Gallagher announced the news during the Xbox Gamescom media briefing.
Rise of the Tomb Raider had its debut trailer revealed in July at E3. The trailer showed Tomb Raider star Lara Croft talking with a psychiatrist as she tried to deal with the traumatic events of her 2013 reboot. It even hinted at her dealing with her trauma by, of course, delving into yet another ancient ruin. This was great news for tomb Raider fans since many of them were disappointed at the reboot’s severe lack of tombs.
Darrell Gallagher was quoted at the briefing as saying,
“Multiple locations around the world will be filled with exploration spaces that are some of the most beautifully hostile places on earth and over three times larger than we could achieve before. Our digital actors will rival CG quality, and after hearing the cry from our fans loud and clear, we will put tombs back into Tomb Raider, all in our gritty Survival-Action style.”
They have not announced whether the new Tomb Raider game will be only on Xbox One, or if it will also be made for the Xbox 360. They were also unclear as to whether this will be a timed exclusive or whether it will be made only for Xbox. The title is set to be released “holiday 2015.”
