343 Industries regrets the problems with matchmaking in Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and so they are giving away free stuff to anyone who purchased or played the game between November 11th and December 19th. They are giving away in-game avatar gear, a new campaign, and a little free Xbox Live Gold subscription. Besides this, it was announced that in a future content update a new re-mastered multiplayer map will become available.
343 Industries is giving these things away, “To show our appreciation to the ‘Halo’ community for their support and understanding as we worked through issues impacting ‘Halo: The Master Chief Collection’,” according to the Halo Waypoint website official blog. Bonnie Ross, the head of 343 industries wrote a thank you to fans on the Halo Waypoint website, and wanted to emphasize how important Halo players experiences are, “The satisfaction and joy of our fans is absolutely critical to everyone at 343 industries and we regret the issues and the frustration you have endured. We are truly sorry and thank you for your continued patience and support of the Halo franchise.”
The new campaign being offered for free to Xbox players who have already played Halo: The Master Chief Collection, is a re-mastered Halo 3: ODST campaign. As with the other games in this collection it will be updated to 1080p and 60fps for Xbox One. This is offered to anyone who has played the game online at all, but a copy of Halo: The Master Chief Collection is required to play the new campaign. This campaign is still being updated, but will be available spring of 2015.
The gear given away is an exclusive in-game nameplate and avatar. Both of these are unobtainable any other way, according to the Halo Waypoint website, “As a thank you to our early adopters for their patience and understanding, the in-game nameplate and avatar will be exclusive to all online users that have played ‘Halo: The Master Chief Collection’ between Nov. 11, 2014 and Dec. 19, 20141, and will not be available through any alternate means.”
These dedicated fans will also receive a one month subscription to Xbox Live Gold free of charge. This will be available to players sometime in January, and will either be credited directly to player’s accounts, or sent as a redeemable token in a message on Xbox One. The exclusive nameplate and avatar will both be made available to players who have earned them in a content update sometime in December.
The newest multiplayer map is coming because of great fan demand. The “Relic” multiplayer map will be made available to anyone on Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The map was chosen because of fan demand, but according to Bonnie Ross, also because of, “its suitability for Slayer and Objective modes and its ability to support teams of varying sizes.” However, they are not just going to make a carbon copy of the old map, but are tweaking and improving it to make it better than ever. This map will be made available as free content in spring of 2015.
Anyone who has played Halo: The Master Chief Collection online from November 11, 2014 through December 19, 2014 will receive an exclusive in-game nameplate and avatar, the Halo 3: ODST campaign, and one month of Xbox Live Gold, all for free. “Relic” multiplayer map will be available to all players for free. The in-game items will arrive via a December game update, the one month of Xbox Live Gold will arrive January, and both Halo 3: ODST campaign and “Relic” multiplayer map will arrive in the spring of 2015.
