Fox and Owl; Co-Op Flying and Unicycles

The studio Born in 1978 is working on a new game. It is a co-op game called Fox and Owl. This game was originally created just for the creator’s son, but with all the interest shown in the game by the community, it has become something more.

Fox and Owl is a side-scrolling co-op puzzle game. Owl flies high with his helicopter propeller while fox rolls around on the ground with his unicycle. Fox is faster on his own, and owl can fly higher on his own, but they’ll have to work together if they want to solve all the puzzles in the game. It is a cute game made to be family friendly.  However, it is also a project that spawned from a father wanting to spend more time with his newborn son.

Fox and Owl has gotten inspiration from many different places. According to the Patreon site, it’s drawn influence from “some of the greatest games created through the ages; Manic Miner, Head Over Heels, Rick Dangerous II, Ico, Shadow of The Colossus, LocoRoco, Limbo.” I’ll bet that some of those games seem to stand out to you. Well, there’s some early builds for mac and android that are available through the Patreon.

The developer of Fox and Owl became a new father six weeks ago. He started working on this game out of a desire to have something that he and his son could enjoy together one day. According to the Kickstarter page, the developer “grew up playing innocent, fun games on my second hand Amstrad 6128 (with external tape deck!) over 30 years ago. Those games were and still are an inspiration to me in all the creative work that I do.”

Conclusion

Originally Fox and Owl was just going to be a project for his son, but after he unveiled the idea to the internet he got a lot of positive responses. Thousands of people seemed to think this game was a good idea, and wanted to support it. So, he started a Kickstarter campaign to take care of all of the little things that come up when you’re developing something. When it is finished the game is planned to release on PC, Mac, Android, and iOS.
